2019 Victoria Derby winner Warning has been retired.
The rising eight-year-old ran his final race in last Sunday’s Listed Caloundra Cup but, after 47 starts, connections have called time on a career which saw him earn almost $2.5 million.
An astute $65,000 purchase at the 2018 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Mill Park Stud, the son of Declaration Of War won five races in his career, headlined by the Derby, but also the Super Impose Stakes, Chairman’s Trophy, St Ledger Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
“Known as the gentle giant around our stables, he provided us with some thrilling wins, consistently racing at the highest level,” Freedman Racing posted to X.
“A sincere thank you goes to all of Warning’s owners and the staff who have loved him throughout the years. Not to mention, a special thank you to the big man himself, what a remarkable journey it’s been.”
Warning finished seventh, 4.5 lengths behind Mission Of Love in his final race start.
He contested 27 Group races throughout his career and also placed in the South Australian Derby behind Russian Camelot and Dalasan during his three-year-old season.
The chestnut finished 12th in both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in 2020.
Warning’s Victoria Derby win was a sixth in the race for now retired jockey Damien Oliver.
