Brilliant Return for $1million Earner Peltzer

Top class colt Peltzer returned from a summer spell in top form at Randwick on Saturday to score a stylish win in the Group III ATC Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m).

Prepared perfectly by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, Peltzer hit the line hard to forge clear and win by three-quarters of a length over progressive up and comer and stablemate The Face (3g Rubick x Crazy Quality, by Elusive Quality).

Ryan revealed he had a slight leaning to the race-fit The Face but said Peltzer’s class won him the race.

“Running The Face here was going to be his Melbourne Cup and go for a spell and Peltzer was first-up,’’ Ryan said.

“But I really I did believe they’d run 1-2 but I thought The Face, being fitter and getting 3kg off, would be hard to beat.

“I said before the race Peltzer was fit enough to win but there was improvement to come. He had to dig deep to win but that’s what good horses do.’

“He runs in the Hobartville Stakes in a fortnight, that is level weights and we will see what happens, then the Guineas and wherever we go after that.”

A $260,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gerald Ryan Racing/David Raphael, Peltzer was offered by renowned South Australian nursery Mill Park and has the overall record of six wins and a second from nine starts with earnings topping $1million.

Peltzer is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to stakes-winner So We Are and is the first winner from Miss Otto, a half-sister by Elusive Quality (USA) to Group II placed Miss With Attitude, the dam of stakes-winner Crown Towers.

Peltzer’s grand-dam is by Flying Spur, a sire that has worked previously with So You Think to produce Group I ATC Surround Stakes (1400m) winner Nakeeta Jane.

Miss Otto produced another filly by So You Think last year and is back in foal to Coolmore’s champion son of High Chaparral (IRE).
